About SmartMoney Guide
We write plain-English guides about credit, car insurance and saving, for readers in the United States.
Why we exist
Money decisions are often explained in jargon, hidden in fine print, or buried under sales pitches. We started SmartMoney Guide to give readers a clear, honest starting point: what the rules are, how the products work, and what to ask before you sign or switch.
What we cover
- Credit: how scores are built and how to improve them responsibly.
- Insurance: how car insurance pricing works and how to avoid overpaying.
- Saving: how to choose safe places to keep your emergency fund.
Our editorial standards
- Accuracy first. We use primary sources such as the CFPB, FDIC, NCUA, NAIC and the IRS, and we name them at the bottom of each article.
- No fake urgency or guarantees. We do not promise specific score gains, savings or approvals.
- Clear dates. Each article shows the date it was last reviewed. We update guides when rules or conditions change.
- Corrections. If you find an error, tell us. We correct verified mistakes promptly and note significant changes.
- Independence. We do not accept payment in exchange for coverage of a particular company or product.
How the site makes money
SmartMoney Guide is supported by advertising. Ads are clearly labeled and are placed by an advertising network, so we do not choose or endorse the specific advertisers you see. Advertising does not influence our editorial decisions. If we ever add affiliate links, we will disclose them clearly on the page.
Who writes the guides
Our guides are written and reviewed by the SmartMoney Guide editorial team.
What we are not
We are not a bank, lender, insurer, broker or financial advisor, and we cannot give personal financial, legal or tax advice. Please read our disclaimer.
